Assoc. Prof. Won Keun Oh
Professor Won Keun Oh acquired his Ph. D degree in research on natural products chemistry from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). As a visiting scholar, he worked at the Baylor College of Medicine in the USA (2002-2004). He also worked as a principal investigator at Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) (2005-2007) and moved to assistant professor into College of Pharmacy of Chosun University (2007-2013). He has been an associate professor at College of Pharmacy of Seoul National University since 2013. He has undertaken more than ten projects of the Korean government including Individual Basic Science & Engineering Research Program (2012-2015), the Procurement and Development of Foreign Biological Resources (2010-2016), the Korea Bioactive Natural Material Bank (KBNMB, 2012-present) and Basic Science Research Program (2017-present) et al.
Prof. Oh has dedicated his efforts to identification of bioactive natural compounds from plants obtained both domestically (i.e. Korean native plants) and internationally in order to develop functional foods or new botanical/plant-originated drugs. Prof. Oh has worked on the main research topics as follows: (1) drug development for cellular aging and metabolic disorders by understanding the metabolic pathways of various levels of organisms, (2) discovery of anti-viral (i.e. corona or influenza viruses) materials originated from natural products. (3) management of KBNMB by research collaborations and structure analysis of plant-oriented bioactive substances. He has published more than 162 SCI(E) papers in reputed journals such as Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Natural Products, Phytochemistry and Food Chemistry etc. He is also an associate editor of Natural Product Sciences (NPS), an English journal of the Korean Society of Pharmacognosy.
